BJ's Wholesale Club Fundraiser
Dear Bristow Run Families,
We are starting a membership drive for the new BJ's Wholesale Club that will be opening in Gainesville, on Saturday, January 28th. Applications will be coming home with your students.
BJ's has two great Membership Offers for our BRES families. You may choose either the BJ's 'Inner Circle' Membership at a cost of $40 (save $10 off the $50 annual fee) or the BJ's 'Reward' Membership at a cost of $80 (save $10 off the $90 annual fee). Both memberships will be valid for 1 year plus a bonus of three extra months. That will give you 15 months of Club Membership offered @ these reduced rates.
For each family who turns in an application with payment, BJ's Club will donate $5.00 back to our school.
You may send your applications & payment (CHECKS WRITTEN TO: BJ'S WHOLESALE CLUB) back to school with your students. They will be collected in the Front Office, then carried to BJ's for processing. A temporary card & copy of your application will be sent home with your students, to grant you access to the new Club. You will be allowed to shop with the temporary card until your application is processed. BJ's will send you a confirmation email when they have set up your account. Then you may go to BJ's to have your picture taken for your new BJ's Club ID card.

Paws For A Cause
Dear Parents,
Bristow Run is starting a health and fitness initiative to encourage all of our students and their families to “Get Fit” by incorporating at least 20 minutes of physical activity into the day. This can include attendance for PE and running at recess during school, along with home activity. Our “Paws for a Cause” initiative simply involves students getting active and recording their minutes on a fitness log sheet to be turned in at the end of each month. When a student has reached 100 minutes of activity, he or she can write their names on the front of a panther paw and parents can initial that accomplishment.After students have returned the paw to school it will be hung for all to see within our hallways. There will also be some special “fitness time” given to our top active students. Have fun getting fit!!......The Bristow Run Wellness Committee.
Online Writing Tool
This year, our 5th graders at Bristow Run will pilot a writing test administered by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). As of 2013, all 5th graders will take the actual test online (this year is only a pilot test). Our 4th grade students will also do their writing predictor in February using this current technology as well.
The link below will take you to the VDOE website tool that will allow your student to practice using the online writing tool. You will need to give your child a prompt to write about. Students will need to print their results as there isn't a way to save this information once completed. This is a great way to practice using the different tools.
