The Bristow Run Elementary School Advisory Council

“What Is The Bristow Run Advisory Council?”
The Advisory Council is a group of parents and faculty members plus Mr. Buchheit, the principal and Ms. Werle, the assistant principal. The Advisory Council is an open forum where parents and faculty gather on a monthly basis to provide leadership and direction for the school.

“What Does the Advisory Council Do For Me and My Child?”
Think of your school as a corporation that produces an education for your child. The Advisory Council is the Board of Directors who answers to the shareholders. You are a shareholder in Bristow Run Elementary School.

“What Has Our Advisory Council Done For My Child?”
Developed and monitored our annual school plan; provided an opportunity for parent input through surveys and monthly citizen times and provided feedback on the school budget. For example, the after school enrichment program was initiated by the Advisory Council and interested parents.

“What Will Our Advisory Council Do For My Child?”
This year your Advisory Council will be focusing on key topics in the education of your child at BRES including technology, library resources, increasing community involvement in the school, and meeting the State’s and BRES’ goals on education and student achievement.

“What Is The Difference Between The PTO And The Advisory Council?”
Both The PTO and the Advisory Council are important parts of Bristow Run. The PTO focuses on fund raising, school spirit and helping to support our instructional goals while the Advisory Council focuses more on academics, the school budget and development of instructional programs.

“How Can I Help the Advisory Council Help My Child Get The Most Out Of His/Her BRES Experience?”
You can donate just a few hours of your time this school year and participate in one of three ways:
·        1.  You can attend the monthly Advisory Council meeting as an observer. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month, 6:30 p.m. in the library. No advance reservation required! However, if you have ideas or concerns that you would like to present to the Advisory Council, please contact the Advisory Council Chair or, the Vice-Chair, to have your issue placed on the agenda.
·         2. You can join one of the committees or task forces focusing on important aspects and goals of your child’s education at BRES.
·        3. You can talk with a member of the Advisory Council about important school issues or concerns that you may have.

“Okay, I’m Sold, So How Do I Get Involved?”
That’s easy. Just come to a meeting or contact one of our current Advisory council members or Mr. Buchheit at buchhear@pwcs.edu
